2021 - Onwards and Upwards!

This year has brought many twists and turns with snap lockdowns, distributed teams and closed borders, however, despite the disruptions, it has brought some awesome new talent through our door. Adapptor’s Development, Product Management and Test teams have all benefited from this influx and enabled us to maintain the skills balance across our broader team.

And so without further ado, let us introduce our brilliant new additions:

(In order of above picture, from left to right)

Nicholas Johnson

Developer

Nicholas joined the Adapptor Team in June 2021 as a developer and has already impressed the team with his ability to get through work with accuracy and efficiency. Nicholas completed a Bachelor of Science with a Double Major of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science before completing his Master’s Degree of Computer Software Engineering in 2018.

Nicholas has gained a range of experience in his previous roles in different coding languages and mobile application development. He has a keen interest in all things tech and has a particular interest in seeing the complete deployment of IPv6 worldwide. He has deployed a NAT64 network at home to facilitate communication between IPv6 and IPv4 hosts, and tests devices and software for their ability to function in the absence of native IPv4.

During his time away from work, Nicholas enjoys robotics, experimenting with music production, playing piano and doing Tae Kwon Do.

Frazer Emms

Junior Product Manager

Frazer joined the team in June 2021 as a Junior Product Manager. Frazer has a passion for learning and understanding the ‘big picture’ of software product delivery. Frazer thrives on strong communication and creating a pro-active and productive team environment that delivers quality products for our clients and their end users.

Frazer graduated from the University of Notre Dame in November 2020 with a Double Degree of a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce, Majoring in Marketing. Frazer decided towards the end of his studies that his passions lay elsewhere and that he would pursue a career outside of the legal profession.

Frazer has always had a passion for technology and has grown up being a keen user of mobile applications. Outside of work, Frazer enjoys finding time to play soccer, and has only recently stopped coaching tennis after more than 10 years as a qualified tennis coach. You’re also likely to find Frazer at the beach with his two border collies or alternatively at the nearest burger joint!

Christopher Martin

Junior Manual Tester

Chris joined the Adapptor team in August 2021. Chris has joined as a Junior Manual Tester after completing his Master’s of Cyber Security in July. The skills that Chris learnt during his studies and practical experience that he gained from a number of projects have given Chris an impressive arsenal of tools to apply himself to the testing role.

Prior to completing his Master’s, Chris had completed a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Music. Chris was and still remains a prominent figure in the Perth music scene. As a professional Tuba player, Chris performed with the West Australian Symphony and world renowned artists such as Hans Zimmer and Tim Minchin.

Due to a lack of professional work in Perth, Chris made the difficult decision to leave his professional music career behind and pursue his other passion in IT. Outside of work you’ll find Chris playing with his Lhasa Apso named Fifi or relaxing whilst watching anime and gaming.

Paddy Waring

Manual Tester

Paddy is a manual software tester with a keen eye for complicated problems, and attention to detail. His experience and natural tendency to keep poking things until his curiosity is satisfied provide him with the analytical mindset needed to thoroughly test any application.

Before moving into mobile app testing, Paddy spent a year and a half working as a QA Tester for a local Perth games studio, shipping a high-profile title on the latest consumer hardware. Prior to working as a tester, Paddy spent 10 years working across a number of roles in Perth's IT industry, gaining valuable experience and exposure to a variety of environments and positions within IT.

Outside of work Paddy is an avid writer, hobbyist painter and videographer with his own Youtube channel!

Denise Ng

Developer

Denise is joining the Adapptor team with almost 20 years experience as a software developer. Denise started her journey in software development completing a Computer Science degree in 2003, aiming to utilise technology to help make peoples’ lives easier and let computers do the work for them.

Prior to joining Adapptor, Denise has spent her time working for a number of companies across Perth, helping to build tools and software that have had a significant positive impact. Whether as part of a team or working independently, Denise has a proven track record of success. During her career, Denise has enjoyed building camaraderie with her teammates whilst working towards the common goal of producing high quality products.

Denise will be joining Adapptor in a part time position as her other role is being a full time master chef for her daughter.

Leon Ross

Developer

Leon has joined the Adapptor team with extensive experience in web development and cross platform development. Leon completed a Computer Science degree majoring in Software Engineering at Edith Cowan University and has been immersing himself in technology ever since.

Leon has been self employed for the last 10 years, working with clients from the financial industry to automate trading strategies, implement performance analysis and better utilise reporting. Leon enjoys playing with new technologies, like building for Google Assistant and trying out frameworks like Flutter. He is excited to have joined the Adapptor team and is looking forward to building his skills in mobile application development.

Outside of work, you are likely to find Leon running around and attempting to keep up with his two young sons.

Elliot Bulmer

Senior Developer

Elliot has been working in software development for over 10 years. In that time he has helped build simulators for mining equipment, developed various mobile applications and even worked on a Playstation 5 launch title (Oddworld: Soulstorm). Elliot is a returning member of the Adapptor Team, having rejoined in 2021 after spending 2 years previously at Adapptor from 2017 to 2019.

Elliot is a generalist who is able to adapt quickly to new challenges and technologies. He is passionate about writing clean, readable code that is simple and robust. He is a proponent of functional programming and likes to learn new computer science concepts. He has studied languages like Clojure, Common Lisp, Scheme, Elixir, Rust, C and Go. AI and game development are areas he finds especially interesting.

In his spare time he likes to cruise around on his electric skateboard, listen to music, play video games, drink wine and read.

We are thrilled to welcome these fine human beings to the Adapptor team, each joining with their own unique background of skills and experiences. It has always been an important part of Adapptor’s hiring criteria to choose team members who are multi-faceted and augment our current team capabilities - we are 100% sure that our newest recruits will continue that tradition.
